Making Things Work: PSEG's First Century

"I was skeptical that there was any value to an anniversary celebration, but I was proven wrong — very wrong."
E. James Ferland, Chairman & CEO (Retired)
PSEG

Written by Marian Calabro
Produced and Published by Greenwich Publishing Group, Inc.
This 128-page overview of the New Jersey-based global energy company Public Service Enterprise Group drew on 50 interviews and field trips to such sites as a nuclear power plant.
The book was the centerpiece of a year-long public relations effort by PSEG that celebrated its 100th anniversary. Both the book and the campaign won prestigious Iris Awards from the New Jersey chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

Additional praise from client
"We chose Marian for the readability and accessibility of her writing, and for her ability to break out of the 'historical book mold.' We wanted a book that read less like a history, and more like a compelling collection of stories that reinforced key feelings about the company. She not only rose to the occasion, but exceeded our expectations.
"While we wanted a text where people could open to any page and start reading (which we achieved), early readers have found themselves joyfully reading it from start to finish. This is stark contrast to our 75th anniversary book, which was a bit of a chore to get through.
"Marian researched our company thoroughly, uncovering many stories, pictures, and letters that have been critical to adding the right graphic presentation to the text.
"In addition to the above, I strongly recommend Marian for other book projects for one simple reason — she is a joy to work with. She worked well with everyone she interviewed, from the Chairman to the field worker. In addition, she worked with our editorial group — which is not always easy. She listens to comments (sometimes contradictory ones) and finds innovative ways to reflect the comments in subsequent text versions.
"As always, the proof is in the pudding — and the pudding looks and reads great. I think we have a standout history, for which much of the credit goes to Marian."
