Digital Museum Example

Small historical societies are superb repositories of local artifacts and memorabilia, yet they’re often so underfunded that it’s hard for authors to access their holdings. One solution is a digital group museum like the Maine Memory Network: “Developed and managed by the Maine Historical Society, the Maine Memory Network enables historical societies, libraries, and other cultural institutions across the state to upload, catalog, and manage digital copies of historical items from their collections into one centralized, web-accessible database.” More than 270 organizations and towns across Maine currently use it (see map below for contributors), making it easy for researchers to tap into this wealth of material online. TIP for Business Anniversary Campaigns, Timelines, and About Us Pages: An organization can use the same model for collecting and organizing its own institutional memory.
